Little kids want to help, but “clean your room” is too vague for them to act on. A picture chore chart turns the job into small, clear steps they can see and tick off themselves. Every chore on this chart has a simple picture next to it, so it works for kids who can’t read yet.
What’s inside
Page 1: nine everyday jobs with pictures. Make my bed, brush my teeth, get dressed, put toys away, clear my plate, clothes in the hamper, feed the pet, water the plants and read a book. Each has a circle for every day of the week, and there is a reward line at the bottom: “When I fill my chart I get: ____”.
Page 2: a blank version. Your child draws a picture and writes (or you write) each job, so the chart can grow with them.
How to use it
- Go over the chart together and let your child pick a sticker style or a favorite color.
- Agree on the reward up front and write it on the line. It doesn’t need to be big: a trip to the park, choosing dinner or an extra bedtime story all work well.
- Each time a job is done, your child colors the circle or adds a sticker.
- Start a new chart each week. Keep old ones for a while so they can see how far they’ve come.
Which chores fit which age?
- Ages 2 to 4: put toys away, clothes in the hamper, help feed the pet.
- Ages 4 to 6: add make my bed, clear my plate and water the plants.
- Ages 6 and up: use the blank page for bigger jobs like setting the table, folding towels or emptying small trash cans.
FAQ
Should kids get paid for chores?
That’s up to each family. Some pay for extra jobs only and treat everyday chores as part of living together. The reward line works for either approach.
How many chores should a young child have?
Three to five is plenty to start. You can hide rows by folding the chart, or use the blank page to make a shorter list.
Can I use it for more than one child?
Print one chart per child with their name at the top. Kids love having their own.
