Regular cleaning keeps a home looking fine. A deep clean gets to the spots that quietly collect grime: behind the fridge, inside the range hood filter, under the sofa cushions. This checklist puts all of those jobs on one page, grouped by room, so nothing gets forgotten.
What’s inside
Forty tasks in six sections, each with a checkbox:
- Kitchen: inside the fridge, oven and stovetop, range hood filter, cabinet fronts, microwave, kettle and coffee maker, dishwasher filter, sink, backsplash and behind the appliances.
- Bathrooms: grout and tile, showerhead, shower curtain, behind the toilet, drawers, exhaust fan and expired products.
- Bedrooms: mattress, pillows and comforter, under the bed, ceiling fan, baseboards and windows.
- Living areas: under the cushions, upholstery, blinds and curtains, electronics, shelves and windows.
- Entry and laundry: front door, doormats, washer seal, dryer vent and the coat closet.
- Whole house: light switches, air vents, HVAC filter, smoke detectors and trash bins.
How to use it
Don’t try to do it all in one day. Most people get the best results by picking one room per weekend and working through the list over a month or so. Before guests arrive or before a move, you can split the list between everyone in the house.
In each room, work top to bottom: ceiling fans and high shelves first, then surfaces, then baseboards, and floors last. That way dust only falls onto spots you haven’t cleaned yet.
Tips
- Gather supplies before you start: microfiber cloths, an all-purpose cleaner, a scrub brush, an old toothbrush for grout and a vacuum with a crevice tool.
- Soak the range hood filter and the showerhead while you work on other tasks.
- Write the date at the top so you know when the house last had a deep clean.
FAQ
How often should I deep clean my house?
Every three to six months suits most homes. Kitchens and bathrooms may need it more often, especially with kids or pets.
What is the difference between regular and deep cleaning?
Regular cleaning covers surfaces you see and use every day. Deep cleaning reaches what you usually skip: inside appliances, behind furniture, vents, grout and fixtures.
Can I use this checklist for move-out cleaning?
Yes. It covers most of what landlords look for. Add inside cabinets and closets once they are empty.
