Hosting Thanksgiving is a lot easier when you don’t try to do everything on Thursday. This planner spreads the work over two weeks, so the day itself is about the food and the people, not the panic.
What’s inside
Page 1, the countdown checklist:
- 2 weeks before: guest list, menu, ordering the turkey, asking guests to bring a dish, checking chairs and serving dishes.
- 1 week before: shopping for non-perishables, making room in the fridge, pie crust, oven schedule and table linens.
- 3 to 4 days before: thawing the turkey, fresh produce, a cooking timeline and the guest bathroom.
- 1 day before: cranberry sauce and desserts, prepping sides, setting the table and chilling drinks.
- Thanksgiving day: turkey in on time, reheating sides, gravy, candles, and sitting down to enjoy it.
Page 2, the menu and guests: spaces for appetizers, main, sides, desserts and drinks, a guest list, and a “who’s bringing what” list.
Both pages have a notes box.
How to use it
- Print it about two weeks before Thanksgiving and keep it on the fridge.
- Fill in the menu and guest list first. Everything else depends on them.
- Work through one section at a time and tick things off as you go.
- Use the “who’s bringing what” list so you don’t end up with four pies and no rolls.
Tips
- Thaw the turkey in the fridge. A frozen turkey needs about one day for every four to five pounds, so a large bird can take most of the week. Check the USDA’s guidance for full food safety details.
- Make an oven schedule. Write down what goes in when and at what temperature. Many sides can be made ahead and reheated.
- Clean the fridge before you shop. You’ll need the space for the turkey and leftovers.

FAQ
When should I start planning Thanksgiving dinner?
Two weeks ahead is ideal. That leaves time to order a turkey and spread out the shopping.
Can I use this planner for Friendsgiving or Christmas dinner?
Yes. The countdown works for any big holiday meal. Just swap the turkey for whatever you’re serving.
Is the planner editable?
It’s a print-at-home PDF. The menu and guest pages are blank lines, so you can write in your own plan.
